Avoiding Skin Damage From the Sun

Spending a lot of time in the sun is one of life's simple joys during the warm summer months. Unfortunately, many individuals across the country, especially those in sunnier locations, find themselves experiencing terrible skin damage from the sun. These people forget to apply generous amounts of sunscreen, or perhaps just do not adhere to the weather conditions for the day. There are ways to avoid such damage, though, and many people will find such methods to be easy to administer and follow.

Between 10 AM to 4 PM.  the sun is directly overhead and tends to burn people more quickly. Skin damage from the sun could lead to skin cancer or other diseases.

For those spending a lot of time in the sun, make sure you cover up with appropriate clothing. A few suggestions for this would be a wide-brimmed hat to prevent sun damage on the face and UV-blocking sunglasses for extended periods of time in the hot weather. The eyes are one of the most sensitives parts of the human body, which means protecting them is critical.

There are a wide variety of sunscreens on the market for those spending time in the blistering sun. All type of sunscreens should have an SPF of 15 or higher and should be broad spectrum (UVA/UVB). Some examples of good sunscreen to prevent damage include Obagi Sun Shield Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 50 and SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV SPF 50. Both of these are powerful tools to fight against the sun's rays.

Most people who spend a significant amount of time in the sun don't even think to examine the sensitive areas of the skin, which tend to burn very quickly. Everyone should take some time to examine their skin and locate any burned areas. Should an area be burned, the burned individual should get out of the sun as quickly as possible.
