Hair Care

The Three Golden Rules of Hair Care
We all want bright and gorgeous hair. While we might always be on the lookout for the latest and greatest hair product, there are some certain rules that you can follow to ensure that your hair is always shiny, bouncy and vibrant. Here are the three golden rules of hair care.

Rule One: Know Your Hair Type

Different hair types require not only different products but different techniques as well. For example, naturally straight hair shines when brushed, while tight curly hair can turn into a frizz ball when you use anything besides a wide toothed comb. You need to familiarize yourself with not only what type of texture your hair is, but whether it's dry, oily or normal. This will help you determine the best products and techniques to use.

Rule Two: Don't Over-Shampoo

When we were kids, our parents told us to wash our hair daily and to keep shampooing until the strands squeaked. Today, most hairdressers and industry professionals agree that this isn't the best advice. Instead, you want to wash every few days with a high-quality shampoo that won't strip your hair of its natural oils, such as the Dermalogica Shine Therapy Shampoo.

Rule Three: Keep Your Hair Hydrated

Hydrated hair is healthy hair. The best way to hydrate your hair is by using conditioner each time you shampoo, in addition to using a deep treatment product once a week. If your hair still feels dry, don't try to overcompensate with a heavy application of leave-in conditioner. This will destroy your volume and make your hair look dull. Instead, try a light application of a hydrating hair oil, such as the Dr. Hauschka Neem Hair Oil. Oil will moisturize your hair without weighing it down. Be sure not to use too much and to concentrate the product on the ends, where the hair can often appear the driest.

If you follow these three golden rules, your hair will look healthier and shinier. Hair care shouldn't be hard; instead, it should be about little things you regularly do to keep your locks luscious and hydrated.
